HOTEL
One of the reasons we chose Oaxaca City is the incredible range of hotel options: from budget-friendly inns to stunning luxury hotels. To give our guests maximum flexibility, we won’t be offering an official wedding hotel block. We want to give guests full flexibility to pick the scale of hotel experience they'd like in Oaxaca. We hope this makes it the easiest for everyone's budgets.
The only thing we request is that guests stay 10-15 minutes walking distance from the city’s main plaza—where Jardín Etnobotánico is located (address: Reforma Sur n, Ruta Independencia, Centro, 68000 Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca). Below is a map with the main plaza encircled.
Because this is New Year’s Eve, we recommend booking your hotel now, before purchasing flights. Many properties offer fully refundable reservations with no money down, making it easy to adjust plans later. At the moment, there are still great New Year’s Eve rates in the $60–$150 USD per night range. These prices will naturally increase as the year goes on, so we strongly encourage guests to secure a flexible reservation by mid-March.
We personally recommend searching through Airbnb.com or Booking.com — we’ve confirmed with several hotels that Booking.com often offers better rates than booking directly through hotels. If you need help finding lodging, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly. We’re more than happy to help everyone find an affordable and comfortable option.
Below, we’ve put together some hotel recommendations (that are available for the full week of New Year’s) and helpful tips to make booking easier. If you have already found the perfect spot and don’t need help with flight info, feel free to jump straight to the Wedding Details page.
Hotel Recommendations & Tips
Oaxaca is wonderfully walkable, with its best restaurants, museums, and cultural spots all close together near the plaza—including our wedding locations! So because of this, we want our guests to maximize the city’s walkability. We hope our guests take advantage of this and stay in the area, so we can all remain close. Oaxaca is a city where you naturally bump into friends and family while wandering, grabbing coffee, or heading to dinner, and we love the idea of sharing that experience throughout the weekend.
Lodging in this city generally falls into three categories:
Budget: private hostel rooms, airbnb studios, and charming inns
Classic hotels: larger, traditional hotels in the city center like Quinta Real
Luxury boutique stays: beautifully restored homes converted into small, design-forward hotels like Grana B&B and Casa Antonieta

TRAVEL
Flying into Oaxaca
The airport for Oaxaca City is OAX, an international airport. Major carriers operating at OAX include American Airlines, United Airlines, Aeromexico, Volaris, VivaAerobus, and TAG Airlines. There are direct flights from the United States into Oaxaca through Los Angeles, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Houston, and from major cities in Mexico such as Tijuana, Cancún, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Mexicali, Monterrey, and Mérida.
We’ve outlined three recommended flight paths for guests coming from the U.S. or abroad (Europe, Asia, Australia, etc.). We assume our Mexican guests have plenty of major cities to fly out of and can pick the most convenient option, so you can skip!
1) Direct Flights from the U.S.
For most guests traveling from the U.S., the easiest option is a direct flight from Los Angeles, Dallas-Fort Worth, or Houston.
Some guests are already planning on combining the wedding with a longer Mexican vacation. In that case, we recommend flying into the most affordable major city in Mexico and taking a connecting flight to Oaxaca—either before or after your other travels.
2) Alternative Flight Path for guests from Los Angeles
For guests based in LA with more time to spare than budget, another option is to take Amtrak or FlixBus to San Diego and use the CBX pedestrian crossing into Tijuana Airport for a flight out of Tijuana International Airport.
It’s an American-friendly crossing, hassle-free, and only $25 per way. You enter through San Diego and do not cross through immigration. Evan and I have used CBX several times—it feels hilariously more like a fancy 20-minute walk through an airport lounge than an airport. Flights from Tijuana can be significantly cheaper. If you prefer to drive down, we also have personal recommendations for parking your car for several days—reach out to us directly if this is an option you’re considering.

3) International Guests (Europe, Asia, Australia, etc.)
For guests traveling from outside the continent, our biggest recommendation is to fly into any major Mexican city at the best rate, then book a domestic connection to Oaxaca. Good news is once you're in Mexico, flights are significantly cheaper within the country.
Many of you are planning to extend your trip and see more of Mexico — highly recommended! Perfect winter destinations include beaches, Yucatan, and cultural hubs like Mexico City and Guadalajara.
We want this trip to be as affordable as possible for all of our guests. And as you know, Evan and I are professional deal-hunters and flight-obsessives, so consider us your personal travel agents. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you need help finding the best flights or planning your travel itinerary— no, seriously!
